ABOUT MEL SLOMP

I have the good fortune to be the Executive Director of the Bone and Joint Health Strategic Clinical Network (BJH SCN). The BJHSCN is transforming bone and joint health care for Albertans. It is Alberta Health Services’ primary vehicle for promoting disease prevention and improving the way care is planned and delivered. Further, the BJHSCN supports worldclass bone and joint medical and health research in Alberta, and leads provincial efforts to quickly move the results of this research into everyday medical practice. These efforts are intended to ensure Albertans get maximal value from the money they invest in public health care for bone and joint conditions. The BJHSCN seeks to engage the community to improve bone and joint health care for all Albertans and to find the unique perspectives and diverse skills it needs to do its work. Patients, business people, researchers and educators work alongside medical professionals, including physicians, therapists and nurses, on project teams, committees and working groups. To complement the work that I engage in, I am trained in conflict management (International Mediation Institute Certified).
