ABOUT MEHUL SHANKHAPAL

I’m a Machine Learning Scientist at Expedia Group, working in the Ads team, where I build and improve data-driven models that power large-scale advertising and marketplace systems. My work focuses on applied machine learning, experimentation, and optimizing models that directly impact business performance and user experience at scale.Before joining Expedia, I worked as an ML Scientist at Phronetic AI, where I developed AI-driven solutions in video analytics, multimodal vision-language models (VLMs), generative AI, and agentic systems. I worked on model fine-tuning, evaluation, and deployment for real-time inference use cases, including production-grade multimodal models.Earlier in my career, I was a Software Engineer at Cisco, where I built and optimized scalable backend systems using Python, Go, Docker, and Kubernetes. This experience gave me a strong engineering foundation that I now apply to building reliable, production-ready ML systems.I hold an M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from IISc, where I worked on deep learning and model optimization, and developed a strong grounding in ML fundamentals.I enjoy working at the intersection of machine learning, engineering, and product.
