About Megan McDonough

I recently completed two years of service with Teach For America in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) of Texas. Being a new teacher in an immigrant community on the US-Mexico border during the COVID-19 pandemic was full of unique challenges, but my passion for inspiring and supporting youth never waned. As a middle school teacher, I lived into my core values of acceptance, imagination and personal growth. I supported students to accept themselves and each other, encouraged them to activate their imaginations, and challenged them to grow. Through my experience fostering safe spaces for students, tracking achievement data, and communicating with parents, I refined skills such as adaptability, collaboration, and empathy. I am incredibly grateful for my experience with my students in the RGV, and I am grateful to currently be in a role that allows me to leverage my skills and knowledge to empower young people. As the Student Experience Coordinator at Bottom Line, I work with college students to support them on their college journey.

   As the Managing College Success Advisor in New York, I manage a caseload of first-year college students. Following Bottom Line\'s model, I work with my students to support them with the transition to college-level academics, their personal growth and well-being, building career skills, and navigating financial aid logistics. I also manage a project - student engagement - which consists of planning and hosting community building events, publishing a monthly newsletter, and managing students\' transition into our program over the summer.
