As Senior Director of Engineering at the New York Times, I lead the full-stack engineering function for NYT Cooking. I partner closely with product, design, data, and editorial to set technical direction, execute roadmap strategy, and scale engineering practices. I report directly to the CTO, act as a steward of technical vision, and drive both execution excellence and technical leverage across the NYT Cooking product ecosystem- Oversee an organization of five cross-functional engineering teams responsible for web and mobile applications and their underlying platforms- Oversee technical roadmap, architecture, and vision for NYT Cooking, in alignment with broader NYT technology and editorial strategies- Serve as primary engineering liaison to product, design, analytics, editorial, and business stakeholders: translating market and editorial needs into technically feasible, scalable solutions- Own resource planning, recruiting, hiring, retention, and career pathing across my domain: growing talent, coaching managers, and promoting engineering leadership development- Guide budgeting, vendor / tool procurement, and cost optimization decisions within my engineering domain- Responsible for change management that has driven adoption of GenAI tooling within the NYT Engineering group (e.g. evals, training, feedback loops)- Measure and report on key engineering metrics (e.g. cycle time, deployment frequency, error rates, team health), leveraging dashboards to inform executive stakeholders. Hold standards and influence positive trends within Cooking and the broader Engineering function- Champion engineering culture, inclusion, psychological safety, and continuous learning across the NYT Engineering organization.
