ABOUT MEG HEESAKER

As an Associate at McCarthy Tétrault I am developing a broad transactional practice in infrastructure and commercial real estate. I have a particular interest in transit projects and how they move through the phases of design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance. At McGill’s Faculty of Law, I focussed my attention on corporate and commercial law. Specifically, I’m interested in how contracts can articulate and set mutually beneficial terms between parties. This interest led me to explore the law on contractual renegotiation for my undergraduate thesis. I examined how COVID-19 could change a party’s ability to perform and meet their contractual obligations under commercial leases. If you’re curious and eager to read some comparative doctrine, you can find that paper (all 48 pages of it!) below. But long before contracts and law school, I was a successful SaaS startup and scale-up professional in Toronto. I worked primarily in business development and customer success. These roles taught me critical customer service skills including how to connect with clients, manage expectations, and consistently deliver long-term results. My tech career also instilled within in me a product-first, data-driven and iterative mindset. These skills allow me to see the big picture while also prioritizing and completing value-adding tasks, all while growing, learning and improving along the way.On a personal level, I\'m at my best (and happiest) in front of a crowd, leading teams and building community - one brick at a time. I thrive in collaborative, supportive, and inclusive work environments. Please get in touch if you’d like to connect or discuss my current life as an Associate and/or any of my past lives that have come before.
