ABOUT MEGHANA BINRAJ
Hi! I am Meghana Binraj. I\'m interested in integrative biology, conservation and biogeography of the Indian Ocean, focusing on marine vertebrates. Cartilaginous fishes (sharks, rays, skates, chimaeras) specifically. I am driven by a curiosity to explore the lesser-known, data-deficient species. I am currently looking for PhD opportunities - labs/advisors, research consultancies, while I continue to build Species & Spaces Foundation. With expertise spanning multiple disciplines - including ecology, marine sciences, psychology, social sciences, public engagement, and outreach; I leverage these perspectives to address complex ecological challenges. My work bridges science and community action, using research to inform conservation strategies while amplifying underrepresented voices and fostering collaboration among diverse groups. From working with fishing communities along India’s coasts to contributing to global initiatives for shark conservation, I’ve gained a deep understanding of the interconnectedness of ecosystems, human livelihoods and the drivers of conservation interventions. Beyond research, I am committed to making science accessible and inclusive, creating opportunities for skill development in field research and marine sciences, and advocating for diversity and inclusion in conservation.I firmly believe that diversity in thought and perspective sparks innovation and drives meaningful change. By combining interdisciplinary knowledge and fostering collaboration, my goal is to contribute to a deeper understanding of our oceans while inspiring others to protect and value them.Let’s connect to explore ways we can work together to learn about our oceans and their inhabitants.
