Meghan Toner leads the IP & Data Governance CoE at Carrier. In addition to managing the global Intellectual Property team and the patent and trademark portfolio, she oversees the legal support for global privacy, cybersecurity, AI, and digital projects. Previously, Meghan was General Counsel for Fire & Security Products, a $5B global division of Carrier providing residential, commercial, and industrial fire protection systems and security solutions with over 220 locations worldwide. As General Counsel, Meghan served on the President’s leadership team, driving business and legal decisions on FSP’s extensive range of industry-leading product brands, including Edwards, GST, Kidde, LenelS2, Aritech, Det-Tronics, and Marioff. Meghan led compliance, risk, and data privacy efforts and advises global product teams on portfolio launches involving artificial intelligence, factory automation, data analytics, and IoT devices. She served on FSP’s Product Safety Council and was responsible for legal oversight of ethics and compliance matters.Prior to her GC role, Meghan led the global Intellectual Property function for Carrier. As its Chief IP Counsel, she managed Carrier’s global patent and trademark portfolio, and advised the digital group and newly-formed Board of Directors on mitigating risk and setting up cybersecurity compliance programs. She stood up Carrier’s new privacy organization after Carrier was spun off from United Technologies Corporation (UTC) to become a public company. She also led litigation and enforcement efforts for Carrier’s 100+ global brands. She has held numerous senior positions within UTC’s business segments, including as Deputy IP Counsel for Otis Elevator.Meghan has over 12 years of private practice experience at firms in New York and Chicago, where she advised Fortune 500 clients on the procurement, protection, and marketing of their intellectual property globally.
