ABOUT MEG BACK
I am a Registered Landscape Architect with a background in commercial photography, design, social media and marketing. My life experience has been in New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and the Pacific North West.My unique skill set combines both technical and creative strengths to achieve outcomes that are strongly aesthetic and fulfil the client brief. I believe place should be highly functional, be visually appealing and address social, cultural and ecological elements. Since graduating with a BLA (Hons), I have worked on a range of projects in New Zealand and the South Pacific with varying levels of responsibility, allowing me to broaden my skills whilst also developing my own aesthetic. Recent projects in the health, education sectors and infrastructure sectors include Whakatipu Active Travel Stg B, Te Huriawa Thorrington School, MCDHB Acute Mental Health Unit and a range of work in Landscape and Visual assessment. I am currently based in Canada, on landscape projects ranging from small community to large infrastructure. A recent past member of the NZILA Executive Committee, other involvement in the industry includes involvement NZILA working groups and conference organising committees, moderation of Unitec BLA courses, critiquing of 4th year BLA dissertations, and peer reviewing of landscape architecture research papers for Landscape Review (on the Editorial Board) and X-Section Journal. In 2024 I was awarded a TPO-NZILA Presidents Award for services to the profession. I currently co-lead the TPO-NZILA climate change working group.Having worked previously in other corporate environments before retraining in Landscape Architecture, I found my experience in client and project management skills valuable. I pick up technical skills rapidly, and my ability to work with the Adobe suite, AutoCad, Revit and a range of other programmes allows me to work seamlessly in project teams. I am a team player, calm and adaptable, with a realistic expectation to work hard and learn with an open mind to progress my career in landscape architecture.
