About Mayank Upadhyay
I build security foundations at scale — and the organizations that deliver them.My work sits at the intersection of identity, infrastructure, security and trust, shaping how systems enforce access, protect data, and manage risk. My philosophy is that security only succeeds when it is intuitive. The safest path must also be the easiest. Done well, security reduces cognitive load rather than increasing it.As Chief Security & Trust Officer and VP of Engineering at Snowflake, I lead the company\'s security strategy and engineering organization building the trust foundation for enterprise data and AI workloads in the Data Cloud. Our work spans high-assurance authentication, AI risk governance, modern defenses, and secure multi-tenant architectures operating at hyperscale. At Google, I embedded security into hyperscale infrastructure, integrating authentication and encryption into Borg (the precursor to Kubernetes). I later led Google’s shift toward phishing-resistant authentication, contributing to Security Keys and the FIDO / Passkey standard, and helped establish identity-centric access through BeyondCorp’s Zero Trust architecture. My scope eventually included Google Cloud’s security control plane and a large-scale enterprise security portfolio, including several capabilities built from the ground up that fundamentally changed how Google Cloud operates. If building durable security foundations for the AI era energizes you, reach out to me!
