   One of the most exceptional pieces of work I led was the design and implementation of a structured tool-calling orchestration framework that significantly improved reliability in multi-step LLM systems. While building enterprise AI copilots, I observed consistent failure modes: models invoked incorrect tools under ambiguity, generated malformed arguments, degraded in multi-step reasoning, and hallucinated when backend systems returned partial results. I hypothesized that these issues were architectural rather than purely prompt-related. To address this, I designed a multi-stage orchestration layer that separated intent classification, structured planning, tool execution, and refinement into distinct phases. The system enforced schema-constrained planning outputs, validated tool arguments before execution, and implemented a self-repair loop when validation failed. I also introduced routing logic to coordinate retrieval systems, reasoning models, and external APIs based on task confidence and complexity. To rigorously measure improvement, I built an evaluation harness tracking tool-call precision, argument validity, multi-step task completion, and hallucination rates under controlled experiments. Compared to a prompt-only baseline, the structured orchestration approach reduced invalid tool invocations by 42%, improved structured output compliance by 31%, and increased multi-step task completion by 18%. This work shifted the system from probabilistic language generation toward controlled, inspectable agentic behavior and demonstrated that reliable interactive AI requires architectural constraints, evaluation rigor, and intelligent orchestration rather than prompt tuning alone.
