ABOUT MEDHA GELLI

Current Role: I am a Data Scientist at National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) working on heat and heat health data and information. I support the interagency National Integrated Heat Health Information System (NIHHIS) by managing the heat.gov website, building new heat maps and dashboards, and creating interactive outreach content. Past Experience: Before my current role, I was an Assistant Environmental Services Specialist for the City of San José\'s Environmental Services Department. I led grant management and GIS analysis to assist in trash load reduction from the city\'s waterways and ensure compliance with a California state stormwater permit. I also interned with ESRI in their Environment and Geodesign department within Professional Services, where I gained tremendous experience with the suite of ArcGIS products. ‍ Education: I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Scripps College in May 2023 with a Bachelor\'s Degree in Environmental Policy (honors) and a minor in Data Science. My thesis was on the environmental issues with Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) in the Central Valley for which I received the Robert Redford Conservancy Senior Thesis Award. Future: I’m interested in applying an interdisciplinary approach to solving real-world issues. I aim to intersect my policy knowledge and technical skills (ArcGIS, Python, Statistics) to learn more about and work on energy. I am looking to get my Master\'s degree in a few years related to the energy or carbon capture fields. If you have any leads or advice, please let me know.
