When I accepted my first payroll position, I never dreamed that it would become a career. Very quickly I realized that I enjoyed the analytical side of payroll. I love reviewing processes and finding new way to make them more efficient, training staff on systems, creating useful reports, and working with software vendors to insure we are utilizing their product to the fullest. Over the years, I have made plenty of mistakes but at the same time I have learned from them and systematically increased my knowledge of systems management. I have been blessed that each employer has challenged me in new ways and helped to develop me by giving me more opportunities and greater responsibility. I work hard to insure payroll team members know how important they are to the process and any success I have achieved is directly related to having worked with dedicated and amazing people. As a manager I feel it is my job to insure my team has the training and skills to succeed in their role as well as have a work/life balance. Unfortunately, many forget that employees need that balance. One way I assist in this is by being a hands-on Manager. I will gladly jump in and process a payroll, discuss issues with employees, or complete any data entry that needs to be done. Rest assured that Payroll Management is for the faint hearted as there is always an emergency, a problem to solve and a new labor law to meet. It is however, both a challenging and rewarding career that I am thankful for.
