Principal Engineer Architecture, Office of the CTO @Netbox Labs
Ottawa, ON, CA
Principal Engineer in the Office of the CTO at NetBox Labs, helping shape the architecture and long-term technical direction of the NetBox platform and ecosystem.NetBox has become a foundational system of record for network and infrastructure teams worldwide, enabling organizations to model, automate, and operate increasingly complex infrastructure.I work across engineering and product teams to guide platform architecture, design scalable distributed systems, and evolve the NetBox platform to support modern infrastructure automation. I’m also excited to support and engage with the open-source community that has made NetBox a cornerstone of infrastructure operations. My background spans cloud platforms, edge networking, and infrastructure automation, with experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems across several internet-scale platforms.

ABOUT MARC BARRY
I’m a principal infrastructure and platform engineer specializing in distributed systems, cloud platforms, and edge networking.Over the past two decades, I’ve worked across the full stack of infrastructure — from carrier networks and traffic engineering to large-scale cloud platforms and developer infrastructure. My work has focused on designing and operating systems that must scale reliably, securely, and globally.I’ve held engineering leadership and principal engineer roles across a range of companies, including Shopify, DigitalOcean, Auth0, Instacart, and others, working on problems such as:• Edge networking, traffic routing, and DDoS mitigation • Cloud foundations and infrastructure platforms • Kubernetes-based platforms and developer infrastructure • Distributed systems architecture and reliability • Security, compliance, and operational resilienceEarlier in my career, I worked directly in telecommunications and network architecture, which shaped how I think about large-scale systems today. That background continues to influence my approach to infrastructure design, observability, and resilience. Most recently, I served as CTO and co-founder of a startup focused on infrastructure middleware before returning to a principal engineering role where I can focus deeply on architecture and complex systems.Today, I’m a Principal Engineer in the Office of the CTO at NetBox Labs, helping shape the architecture and evolution of the NetBox platform and ecosystem. At heart, I’m a builder who enjoys solving difficult systems problems, helping teams move faster, and designing infrastructure that disappears into the background because it simply works.Interests include distributed systems design, edge networking, infrastructure automation, and the evolving intersection of networking and cloud platforms.
