ABOUT MARIA ANDERSON
Strategic higher-education executive with more than 25 years of experience leading complex administrative, financial, and cultural transformations across top research universities. Recognized for bringing clarity to ambiguity, aligning academic and administrative priorities, and modernizing operations to drive measurable results. Skilled in turning data into strategic action, building cohesive teams, and sustaining financial health across portfolios approaching $600 million within multi-billion-dollar university ecosystems. A steady, inclusive leader who creates alignment, accountability, and lasting institutional impact and enjoys sharing her expertise with leaders and institutions ready to embrace change. My current research interest is the transition to life after a playing career for former professional athletes (the subject of my doctoral dissertation) and related identity issues. The social psychology of identity, in a broader sense, is the foundation of my research. I was a varsity swimmer at Stanford and a former Masters swimming world-record holder. I am passionate about the important role athletic participation and competition plays in not only the educational experience but also the post-competition life of people.
