ABOUT KHURSHID KHAN
Since graduating from Jamia Millia Islamia in 2009 with a PhD degree and, I have worked as a Postdoctoral research fellow in United States for four years. I joined as Assistant professor in 2013, at B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and technology, India teaching Biotechnology subjects to undergraduate and postgraduate students. I was promoted to Associate professor in 2017 in the same institution and taught different subjects such as Biochemistry, Plant biotechnology, Microbiology, Enzyme technology, Biophysics, Biomolecules, Analytical Techniques, Microbial genetics and Recombinant DNA technology. Since 2013, I have guided around 20 Undergraduate and Postgraduate projects and three PhD Scholars. My research interest and expertise is basically in two areas such as medical Biotechnology and Protein engineering. As on date I have published around 27 research articles and book chapters in reputed journals. I have also completed one sponsored project funded by Government of India. A brief about the work are:Medical Biotechnology(i) Molecular basis of Antibiotic resistance- The goal of this work is to understand the role of amino acids residues and specific regions in providing antibiotic resistance by creating mutants of enzymes. Our long-term goal is to identify the molecular mechanism underlying antibiotic resistance in naturally occurring mutations in New Delhi metallo betalactamase, which will then help us develop more effective antibiotics.(ii) Understanding role of Post translational Modifications in enzyme catalysis- Post-translational modifications (PTMs) are critical to nearly all biological processes. They can also be dysregulated in disease. This work focuses on the changes in enzymatic properties upon post translational modifications in Dihyrofolate reductase, Thymidylate kinase and Cytochrome c with changes in structure. Protein Engineering- This work focuses on increasing network of interactions (hydrogen bonding, Salt bridges, Disulfide bonds) in industrially important enzymes without compromising the enzyme activity such as. The engineered enzyme will be of great use for industrial applications. In the year 2017, I was given administrative responsibility as Deputy Dean (Research) in which I was assigned to monitor the Institute\'s research scholars\' progress, Accreditation and Ranking, review meeting and Promoting Interdisciplinary research. I believe that my academic (9 years) and research (18 years) and administrative experience (5 years) has prepared me to be an effective faculty.
