About Jakaria

I am Md Jakaria, a Ph.D. candidate in Petroleum Engineering at the University of North Dakota, with a research focus on critical minerals recovery from oilfield-produced water (PW). My work addresses the critical challenges of securing lithium and rare earth elements (REEs) for the energy transition while reducing the environmental and economic burdens of PW disposal.I developed the NanoLiSal recovery model, a cutting-edge three-stage membrane filtration system optimized for high-salinity environments like the Bakken Formation. This model economically recovers lithium, REEs, and valuable salts from PW, transforming waste streams into strategic resources. My research also integrates advanced chemical analyses and spatial mapping to identify recoverable concentrations of critical minerals across major U.S. oil basins.Through innovative engineering design and comprehensive economic analysis, my work supports the petroleum industry\'s transition toward sustainability by creating new revenue streams and aligning with the U.S. national energy independence goals. I aim to contribute meaningfully to the global energy landscape by bridging the gap between environmental stewardship and economic viability.
