ABOUT ASRAFUDDOZA HAZARI
I am a passionate researcher in β-cell biology, matrix biology, and protein biophysics, with a strong focus on understanding the extracellular matrix (ECM) dynamics in both β-cell pathology and therapeutic strategies. My PhD research explores the role of amylin-collagen I interactions in β-cell dysfunction and fibrosis in type 2 diabetes, while also developing fibroblast-derived matrices (FDMs) to restore ECM composition and enhance β-cell survival and function. With expertise in advanced biophysical techniques—including fluorescence spectroscopy, CD, SPR, AFM, and NMR (basics)—as well as little bit of computational modeling, I aim to unravel the mechanobiology of islet-ECM interactions. My work extends to engineering ECM-based strategies to improve islet transplantation outcomes and β-cell regeneration, bridging fundamental research with translational applications in diabetes therapy.
