ABOUT ANAN MORSHED

Mr. Morshed possesses more than 9 years of experience in the geotechnical sector, focusing on dam and mining, the design of dams, waste rock dump design, shallow and deep foundation design, settlement, liquefaction and stability analysis, closure design of mine and issues related to pipe-soil interaction. He is currently licensed as a P.Eng. in Alberta, British Columbia, Canada and P.E. in Arizona, US.Currently, at Stantec he is involved in comprehensive mine planning and geotechnical oversight, including designing mine closure, waste rock and overburden dumps, as well as supervising investigations and managing international tailings projects. Besides, he is mentoring juniors and working as a quality reviewer to successfully accomplish the project and the team’s needs. He has involved in several Dam Safety Reviews (DSRs), Dam Safety Inspections (DSI), supporting the Engineer of Record (EoR) team, and conducting audits for the Mining Association of Canada (MAC), GISTM design updates, closure design support, and design reviews.Previously, he has participated in various permit applications for USACE levee crossings, multiple pipeline crossing projects, shallow and deep foundation designs for levee crossings, and staged designs for sections of the Mississippi levee. In this role, he gained expertise in working with soft, lean, and fat Louisiana clay. Additionally, he is actively engaged in various Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) projects. He has experience in performing stress analysis on new pipelines and integrity analysis on existing pipelines. He developed a HDD tool using the Delft method to calculate bore pressure. Furthermore, he applied the PRCI method to determine the pull-out capacity of pipelines for HDD analysis, effectively bridging the gap between geotechnical engineers and pipeline engineers. Before entering the industry, he accumulated 3 years of research experience at Memorial University of Newfoundland, where he earned his Master\'s in Engineering (thesis-based). His thesis focused on understanding the pipe-soil interaction behavior of a pipeline buried in dense sand under oblique loading, utilizing Abaqus finite element software for this research, which resulted in one journal publication and one conference paper.During his undergraduate thesis, he researched Finite Element Modelling of Short Concrete. He is proficient in several software programs, including Abaqus, AutoPIPE, gINT, GeoStudio, Settle3, APILE, Driven, SHAFT, WEAP, BoreAid, etc.
