About McKenzie Samuels

On the pre-law track, McKenzie is a passionate UVA alum and former Blue Ridge Scholar who double majored in public policy and leadership as well as Africana Studies. Eager to build diverse experiences and skills, McKenzie teaches Biology, Living Environment, Poetry, and student advisory at South Bronx Community Charter High School. She spent years honing skills such as collaboration, communication, problem-solving, production and project management. Additionally, she is an experienced public speaker with a keen eye for detail and a drive for excellence. In her final year at UVA, McKenzie took on the role of President within the Student Organization for Caribbean Awareness. She designed and published an advertisement for incoming students at the university, welcoming them to continue fostering community at UVA and beyond. McKenzie is excited to connect, collaborate, and continue learning in dynamic environments. She welcomes mentorship and is excited to explore new opportunities!

   A Teach For America (TFA) high school biology teacher role is a demanding, two-year leadership position spent partnered with schools in under resourced/represented communities. Term is focused on expanding educational opportunities for students. The core responsibility involves designing and implementing lesson plans that meet state standards, leading lessons, assessing student progress, and guiding academic and personal growth- all within the context of systemic educational inequity.
