ABOUT MARICARMEN CLIMÉNT

I specialise in risk communication in the context of health and journalism. I deliver courses for doctors (and other people in the health sector) and journalists to help them improve risk communication for their audiences. I am also a science journalist on TV, radio and digital platforms. I belong to the Advisory Board of the Science Media Centre, Spain. I joined the Winton Centre at the University of Cambridge in early 2019, where I have played a multifaceted role that includes research, teaching, and working in the media. Science Journalism is a big part of me. I have published around 30 episodes on TV and radio in Mexico, mainly at TVUNAM and Radio Educación, and around ten articles in Milenio, El Pais, Medium and science magazines. I do content research, script writing, interviewing and presenting. I obtained a National award in science journalism on sustainability (2014) and one nomination as best TV reporter (2018). Since 2017, I am an active member of the RedMPC. I also deliver voice training for journalists and science communicators centred on speaking with confidence in a genuine style. This expertise comes from my years practising theatre (as an actress and teacher) and my experience presenting on TV and radio. I hold a BSc in Veterinary Medicine and a master in Animal Health and Production focused on breast cancer at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. In 2015 studied a second master in Science Communication at the University of Sheffield, funded by the prestigious Chevening award.
