   I work to raise awareness about the American Heart Association in Albany, Poughkeepsie and Utica, NY. I create content consistent with our mission about our events, our initiatives and our scientific findings to share with media and on social media. I work closely with development colleagues, survivors of cardiovascular disease, sponsors and volunteers to create compelling scripts and videos that help us raise $1.5 million each year. I work very closely with the government relations director for New York State and other New York communications directors to promote our legislative agenda across the state. Our successes include an increased tobacco tax, the Pulse Ox Law, the CPR in Schools Law, funding for the Empire State Trail, raising the legal sales age for tobacco products to 21 and the prevention of budget cuts to public health programs. I supervise a communications director in Central New York. I have previously supervised the Boston, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont communications directors, and have done hands-on communications work for the American Heart Association in Vermont. I have written for heart.org, the national Web site of the American Heart Association.
