Experienced biological oceanographer fascinated by the interplay between the physical environment and biological communities, with a PhD from Scripps Institution of Oceanography and a demonstrated history of working in research and higher education. Skilled in interdisciplinary, sea-going research, oceanographic instrumentation, and quantitative data analysis. Experience sailing aboard a wide range of oceanographic vessels as well as small crafts, primarily in remote polar oceans (Arctic, Antarctic), including as chief scientist with the Sea Education Association, with a total of over 400 days at sea. Passionate about experiential education and the potential for field work and wilderness travel to foster an understanding of and appreciation for the natural world and the nature of science, as well as its ability to serve as a setting for personal and leadership development.
