WORK HISTORY
Executive Director President @Marieskids
I serve as the executive director and president of a Science, Tech, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) education nonprofit, Marie\'s Kids, I founded earlier this year. The mission of the organization is to introduce underprivileged students in primary school to STEAM through interactions with their social and natural environment and provide pathways for their continued educational and personal development. In this role, I lead a team of eight volunteer directors and committee chairs in supporting the goals of the organization.

ABOUT MYRTEDE ALFRED
I’m a human factors researcher and non-profit director. My work broadly involves the application of sociotechnical systems theory and approaches to support patient safety, equity, and delivery of care. I’ve spent the past three years embedded in a healthcare environment supporting quality improvement efforts and investigating surgical instrument reprocessing, anesthesia medication safety, and robotic assisted surgery. I have over 20 peer-reviewed publications and serve as a co-investigator on a $2.5 million Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) patient safety learning lab focused on reducing medication harm. My budding work in health equity applies human factors and systems analysis to complement the social determinants of health framework by identifying clinical systems factors contributing to racial/ethnic disparities in the maternal health outcomes. My work seeks to develop a paradigm of clinical system equity that can be applied to a wider range of disparities related to quality of care.
