About Manish Bhurtel
As a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at Howard University, I am passionate about exploring and applying AI/ML/CV techniques for scene understanding in unstructured environments. My research topic focuses on using advanced machine learning methods to enable efficient object allocation and situational awareness for multi-robot systems in contested domains. I have created a novel dataset, fine-tuned and trained state-of-the-art models, and devised a performance recovery method for steganography-enabled federated learning, achieving impressive results and metrics. Prior to my Ph.D. study, I worked as a Machine Learning Engineer at Selcouth Technology, where I leveraged ML/DL/CV skills to deliver various projects in the fields of Augmented Reality and background motion detection. I repurposed and optimized existing models, performed in-video poster placement, and created a large-scale dataset, demonstrating my ability to translate research into practical applications. I have a strong foundation in Python programming and its libraries, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, OpenCV, NumPy, Pandas, and Matplotlib, which I use to build robust and efficient algorithms.
