ABOUT MATTHEW BARNARD

I joined Degenkolb in 2001 after receiving my Masters of Science in Structural Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I was based out of the Los Angeles Office for the following 20+ years. In January 2022, we opened our Orange County Office where I served as the Office Director until mid-2025. I currently serve as the firm\'s Healthcare Practice Area Leader after serving as the SoCal Regional Leader for both our Healthcare and our Education Practice Areas. My project experience includes structural analysis, seismic evaluation, retrofit design of existing structures, excavation shoring, and new building design. A licensed civil and structural engineer, I am a project manager and structural engineer of record for a wide range of project types and sizes including UCI\'s new medical center. I am well experienced with HCAI (OSHPD), higher education, and historic retrofit/specialty projects. With Degenkolb\'s support, I have been very active in the professional community. I served on the Los Angeles Metro Area\'s Board of Directors for nearly a decade and was named a National Outstanding Mentor in 2015. I am also a member of CASE\'s National Guidelines Committee and have served SEAOSC and SEAOC in multiple roles including SEAOSC\'s President in 2020/2021.
