Washington, DC, US

With a strong background in the restaurant business both in the kitchen and out in San Francisco (Nob Hill Cafe, Stars), Chef Maziar moved to Washington D.C. He opened Peacock Café in June 1991 with his brother Shahab Farivar: a 1200 square feet, 10-table restaurant. From the beginning, the concept was to provide high quality food and service at a moderate price. From serving sandwiches, salads and DC’s first full service juice bar, Peacock Café quickly became the most friendly place that offered something for everyone. Within a short period, the popularity of the restaurant lead to its relocation and the expansion of its menu. From a small restaurant with light fare food and fresh fruit and vegetable juices, Peacock Café became a full service restaurant offering a large selection of brunch, lunch, and dinner items.

ABOUT MAZIAR FARIVAR

Peacock Café features a menu inspired by classic American cuisine. Around the clock, lunch to dinner into the night, the restaurant is not only a neighborhood gem for a who’s who of Georgetown regulars but also a destination for food lovers looking for casual yet elegant dining. Committed to supporting sustainable farming and fishing, Chef Maziar uses organic flour, chickens and cage free organic eggs and his beef and lamb are entirely free of growth hormones and animal bi-products. Using only the freshest, locally grown ingredients Chef Maziar offers a variety of dishes to satisfy every palette. His signature specialties dishes include Oven roasted Whole Bronzino with Swiss chard, Roasted fingerling potatoes and fennel-butter sauce, the most refreshing Lobster Salad with Arugula, endives, shaved fennel, grapes and citrus-tarragon dressing, Crab and Pesto Risotto, Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes with baby vegetables and Remoulade sauce, Exotic Wild mushrooms and Spaghetti with a Shallot-Cabernet reduction and white truffle oil drizzle, the famous Bistro Burger with Gorgonzola cheese, and of course, the humble but inimitable Peacock Fries. His appetizers are as appealing: Figs and Gorgonzola with grilled Brioche, Port reduction and Balsamic vinegar or the popular Tuna Tartar over marinated Cucumbers and Seaweed Salad. The menu also offers a list of Small Plates with cosmopolitan and more international flavors. Desserts at Peacock Cafe taste as good as they look: The Warm Apple Tart on Filo Dough with caramelized Apples, is definitely a must as well as the famous Peacock Chocolate Volcano, an indulgent molten cake with oozy warm Belgian chocolate center. His extensive Gluten Free and Vegetarian dishes as well as his Fresh Juice Bar, well-known to be the first in Washington D.C, are definitely a big attraction for the natural, health conscious ones. Wednesday and Thursday night try Chef Maziar\'s Persian Menu specials!
