As a medical assistant, I work primarily in endocrinology supporting T1D/T2D diabetes, thyroid problems, and hormonal imbalances. Working across six floors in ambulatory care, when I’m not in endocrinology, I work primarily in critical care pulmonology (e.g, ILD, lung cancer, nodules, etc.) and internal medicine (annual exams, flu, covid-19, etc.). My clinical duties include a minimum of 1 day in the lab per week drawing labs and collecting urine orders for endocrinology and critical care pulmonology patients, performing EKG’s, administering nebulizer solutions and O2 tanks, and collecting sputum samples among other tasks. Rooming consists of vitals (bp, RHR, spO2, height, weight, respirations, pain level), uploads (meters, pumps, readers), BG fingersticks and POC A1c fingersticks, FUNDUS examinations, medication and allergy reconciliations, and social (tobacco), medical, sexual, and surgical hx intake.
