ABOUT MAYA SAINANI

I\'ve recently completed an LLM at the University of Law and have successfully passed SQE1 & SQE2. Professionally, I am a Paralegal/solicitor in training at SourceEV, leveraging my legal skills to promote the green transition. Previously, I spent nearly three years with The Legal 500 Green Guide, where I worked as a legal journalist and ESG researcher. In that role, I analysed law firms’ sustainability strategies, conducted interviews with senior partners, and wrote about the legal sector’s contribution to the green transition.I hold a first-class LLB in Law and Media from the University of Sussex, where I was awarded the Environmental Law Award for my dissertation discussing the principle of sustainable development, and the importance of balancing economical and environmental considerations. During my studies, I completed a mini-pupillage with Francis Taylor Building (FTB Chambers), gaining first-hand experience in environmental and planning law through cases such as National Highways v Insulate Britain.Beyond my formal work, I independently write and publish articles on climate change, human rights, and sustainability across several platforms, including The Speaker, The Landmark Academy, and the United Kingdom Environmental Law Association (UKELA). I also have experience volunteering - and writing articles - for the winner of UCL\'s most innovative start-up competition, Symbiotic.Originally from Brazil and having lived in Peru before settling in the UK, I’m fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. I’m a strong advocate for environmental and human rights, demonstrated through my work with organisations such as the Brighton Peace and Environment Centre, Regions4 (Global Network for Climate and Biodiversity), and the Breathe in Brighton project.I have managed social media pages for several charities and am in the process of starting my own Instagram page documenting my yoga journey. I am passionate about photography (and have experience as a photographer).
