ABOUT MAYA ROSALES

I am originally from Northern California where my diverse community fostered my keen interest in and understanding of foreign policy. I am an FGLI graduate of UC Berkeley, where I focused on Latin American studies, human rights, and international law. During undergrad, I participated in the Department of State’s diversity pipeline Foreign Service Internship Program, published research on U.S. foreign policy in Latin America and the Caribbean, and interned for then-senator, Kamala Harris. My single mother’s immigrant background likewise inspired my work with asylees at non-profit law firms and the UNHCR. Before graduating I worked at the Council on Foreign Relations and studied the Mediterranean refugee crisis in Barcelona as a Gilman scholar. Prior to joining Stanford I was a Brent Scowcroft Fellow at the Aspen Institute. As a 2022 Pickering Fellow, I am pursuing my master’s in international policy in preparation for my career as an American diplomat.
