About Maya Kandell

I am an outreach coordinator at East Bay Sanctuary Covenant and teach classes for people studying for the U.S. citizenship test. I love getting my amazing colleagues, student volunteers, and community members in the same spaces to collaborate on information-sharing campaigns and grassroots projects. I have used the international focus of my UC Berkeley degree to better understand and dedicate myself to the wellness of Bay Area immigrant communities. I have worked towards a thriving East Bay community through non-profit work in immigration law, mental health services, and vocational training.I thrive in culturally diverse work environments that require creativity, teamwork and a strong work ethic, and fuse client-centered work with advocacy and writing to contribute to politically salient organizations. My broader goal is to contribute to the reconstruction of employment and immigration systems that fail our most marginalized community members.I have research and writing experience in journalism, tech, public sector work and in academic settings. My facilitation experience ranges from therapy groups in rehabilitative housing to citizenship classes for Spanish-speaking, often indigenous clients, to public-facing job-seeker workshops.

   Teaches and coordinates citizenship program reaching 80+ students per year- Plans, tracks and manages deliverables for over in grant projects - Trains and supervises volunteers and part time staff to support citizenship and ELL classes, video projects, community events, phone banking and 1-1 client support - Develops and maintains community partnerships with vaccine providers/clinics, schools, legal clinics, attorneys, housing organizations, etc- Organizes and produces weekly radio show speaker schedule for follower platform- Develops and organizes staff training and professional development- Advocates for Mam and Spanish language access and plans immigrant rights campaigns
