About Maya Kalender
Hi! My name is Maya and I\'m an incoming freshman at Columbia University. I am from Rockland County, New York. Recently, I completed a research project using Drosophila as a model organism to test the effects of environmental variables on rates of neurodegeneration. I have extensive experience in a laboratory setting, from my project with Drosophila and as a summer intern at the Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory field station of Columbia University. Over the summer, I work as a camp counselor at Strawtown Art and Garden Studio, emphasizing connecting young people with the natural world through art and science discovery. As a student, I want to get involved with science research in the biological sciences. I am interested in labs focused on neurological and endocrinological disease research.
