ABOUT MAYA CHERINS

I currently work at the Guttmacher Institute as the Senior US Communications Assistant where I support the creation and dissemination of communications materials across the Institute and social media channels. I am fueled by my like-minded colleagues as we work to create accessible and digestible content that advances sexual health, reproductive rights and abortion access. In May 2022, I graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a B.S. in Community and Nonprofit Leadership and Gender & Women\'s Studies and a certificate in Global Health. My background exists at the intersection of advocacy, communications strategy and development work. I have extensive experience working with high level communications departments, turning policy and advocacy into digestible and accessible content via social media, website copy, email and newsletter writing and press copy. I have development and organizing experience working with nonprofits and political campaigns, fundraising and communicating with donors to advance the ideas and actions of progressive organizations. My proudest moment was hosting a fundraiser in my own backyard in July 2022, shortly after Roe v. Wade was overturned. I organized my community, peers and family members to raise over for the Abortion Care Network. I find joy in connecting with others, building community and advocating for abortion access and liberation on all fronts. I am always open to meeting others!
