About Maxwell Dezell
As a Cum Laude graduate of Film & Television at Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia, I have taken courses such as Production, Post-Production, Screenwriting, and Directing the Narrative. I recently exercised the skills I have learned during my undergraduate experience in my internship at Technicolor-PostWorks NY. While spending my summer as a mentee, I learned to digitize/process film, experiment with unfamiliar software such as Baselight, and learn the workflow of Technicolor-PostWorks.Being an intern at a post-production-based company was highly beneficial to my perspective as a director. Keeping the needs of post-production in the forefront of my mind during pre-production and production has created an extremely fluid experience in an environment that is typically high stress. I have carried this new perspective into the process of creating my senior thesis, COLD HEIR.COLD HEIR is about how Alzheimer’s impacts generations of families. This story is extremely personal to me, as I witnessed my grandmother, Cecilia, battle the disease for seven years. COLD HEIR has shaped me as a director who can lead with emotion and intuition while simultaneously prioritizing the needs of the cast and crew. I learned this especially through Alex Pina, creator and director of La Casa de Papel (20••••21), who has influenced me significantly.Through interviews and behind-the-scenes footage, it is well-known that the bonds created on the La Casa de Papel set were genuine and strong. This is the kind of environment I plan to create on my own sets, where the cast and crew can work hard but find the time to be light-hearted and remember the joy filmmaking brings to each one of us.I am eager to listen, observe, and take action during any opportunity that would allow me to improve my directorial skills.
