ABOUT MAXINE MOAR

I have been a key figure in building local and national Community Cohesion polices for over 20 years. I rose to prominence during and after the riots in Oldham and other northern cities and towns in 2001 and has been an adviser to the Home Office under both the Labour and Coalition Governments. After 25 years of youth and community development work experience with local community, voluntary agencies, Greater Manchester Police and Local Authorities, I made the key intervention to the Ritchie Report into the riots. I subsequently has worked with the Home Office as a key advisor to Baroness Newlove and successive Ministers and Home Secretaries as well as with the Department for Communities and Local Government and countless local community initiatives the length and breadth of Britain. I am a community practitioner and national policy maker. My extensive frontline experience at the hardest and sharpest cutting edge of deprived communities and ethnic, racial and cultural segregation combines with my extensive policy knowledge and contacts at the national level to give me a unique insight and role in this highly controversial policy area. My work in developing the highly successful Neighbourhood Agreements as part of the New Deal for Communities programme has given me a proven track record in policies which reduce crime, improve the quality of neighbourhoods and enhance community cohesion. I now work alongside Francis Sealey and associates to train, enable, advise and support communities, residents and businesses to work more effectively in changing communities for the better.
