Toronto, ON, CA

As Managing Director at STA, I lead GTM executive searches for VC- and PE-backed SaaS and AI startups and scaleups across North America and EMEA - partnering with founders, operators, and investors to place CROs, CMOs, GTM leaders, and founding IC talent. I lead a team, build the delivery product (strategy, process, systems, methodology), and drive outcomes. The approach is thesis-led: inflection point first, problem definition next, then ICP and scorecard. We design the search. The market does the teaching. The goal is optionality, a benchmarked bar, and a confident decision made after seeing and feeling the market - not a couple names from a network.Success isn\'t defined at placement. It\'s defined years later, when the hire has made an impact. 200% to quota in 2025 ($1.2M individual billings -#1 in company history) Key contributor to the firm\'s largest deals to date 146%(2024) • 172%(2023) • 102%(year one)

ABOUT MAXIMILIAN NEVER

At eleven, FC Barcelona scouted me. I spent a pre-season at La Masia. I didn\'t make it.I moved through top youth academies in Spain and Italy - competing against the likes of Barça, Espanyol, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Atalanta, Como, Girona, etc. I shared the pitch with players who went on to the Champions League, Premier League, La Liga, Serie A.The gap was never talent. It was an unforgiving standard - intensity, drive, discipline. Failure broke me for years. Then it became fuel.Fifteen years in the game. Six countries. Four languages. Father at 21, playing non-league semi-pro in Germany as a university dropout. I found a way out: a scholarship to the U.S, where I captained my university team.Completed a M.S. in Football Business (First Class Honours). Became an agent - living inside football tech, brokering transfers from Colombia, Peru, Malaysia, etc. to the USL Championship, and one to Serie B Italy.That\'s where I learned something that changed how I think about talent: highlights make everyone look world-class. Real evaluation is translation - whether performance survives a new context. What does a 15-goal striker in Argentina\'s second division become in Mexico, Israel, or Norway? The answer requires taste - built through compounding repetition, market depth, and forensic analysis. One December night in Toronto at -15°C, playing futsal, my colleague Armin asked if I\'d apply my scouting experience to tech startups. I didn\'t know what SaaS or VC stood for - but I knew I could learn from him. I did.As Managing Director at STA, I lead GTM executive searches for VC- and PE-backed SaaS and AI startups/scaleups across North America and EMEA - partnering with founders, operators, and investors to place CROs, CMOs, GTM leaders, and founding IC talent. I lead a team, build the delivery product (strategy, process, systems, methodology), and drive outcomes.Different arena. Same obsession.Weekends now: 20VC instead of Match of the Day, and long walks with my wife and daughter.
