ABOUT MAXIMILIAN WEISSFLOG
I’m an applied physics researcher and engineer, currently developing novel quantum light sources. My work focuses on semiconductor-based nanostructures to generate quantum light for applications in imaging, cryptography, and computing, with the goal of making these sources scalable and highly compact. My background bridges disciplines—starting with an applied bachelor’s in mechanical engineering and industry experience, followed by a research-intensive master’s in photonics. This path has trained me to adapt quickly, engineer practical solutions, and dive deep into advanced theoretical concepts when needed.I’ve had the chance to work on both ends of the research spectrum—earning awards for my bachelor thesis at Siemens AG and for my master thesis in fundamental research, conducted between the University of Jena and the Australian National University in Canberra. I enjoy navigating both academic and industrial environments and finding common ground between the two.Believing that the best ideas come from open collaboration, I’ve been actively involved in scientific community-building since 2019, including serving as chair of Germany’s largest doctoral student conference in photonics in 2022Looking forward to what comes next!
