About Max Fagin
My ultimate goal is to help humanity permanently inhabit the solar system, and I have built my professional life and education around that idea. To that end, I triple majored in physics, and astronomy and mechanical engineering through the Dartmouth/Vassar dual degree program, and completed a masters in aeronautics and astronautics at Purdue University, with a focus on aerospace systems and astrodynamics. At Purdue, I completed my thesis on the use of supersonic retropropulsive trajectories to increase the payload of Mars landers.I also had the chance to become an expert CAD/CAM and manufacturing engineer while working as a machine shop instructor for 6 years in shops at both Dartmouth and Purdue. This has helped me keep true to my belief that the best engineers are the ones who can build the things they design themselves.I have had the chance to work with several incredible teams at many incredible places in industry, including Blue Origin, Made In Space, SpaceX, and the NASA Ames Research Center, and have been part of a crew at the Mars Desert Research Station twice (once as an astronomer, and once as a commander).
