I cover mainly local government and business in Spartanburg and the Upstate, one of the fastest growing areas in the nation, for South Carolina\'s biggest newspaper. I also write a weekly Upstate business newsletter for more than subscribers.The rapidly growing city\'s increase in development, and the challenges that come with it, have been a large focus. Articles about the city\'s efforts to maintain affordability and avoid racial displacement are highlights. Additionally, along with many other reporters, I covered Tropical Storm Helene. The deadly storm hit the region in September 2024 and knocked out my power, and many others\', for days and the office\'s internet for weeks. We covered the storm\'s wide ranging impact, from local business closures to lost family members, while sweating in homes without AC and hunting for gas and charging stations.
