About Max Marcovitch

I got my start in sports journalism, and it opened avenues beyond belief. I was published in the newspaper that taught me to read; I covered an NCAA Final Four, college football championships, and major professional leagues; I traveled around the country, powered by a rental Honda Pilot, lifelong friends, and an ungodly amount of coffee. Mostly importantly, I discovered the magic of writing.​But through those experiences, I discovered that I was a writer, not a reporter — and that was the most important distinction of my career.​That\'s how I found speechwriting, a vocation that channels the best in me: curiosity about the world, attention to detail, empathy, and persuasion. Whether working with high-powered executives, industry-leading scientists, or Hollywood celebrities, I derive tremendous reward from writing with leaders who try to change the world.From this work, I\'ve come to believe that argument is more important than ever. Every day, the world\'s most successful companies make an argument for consumers to purchase their product. Governments argue for their chosen policy agenda. Nonprofits argue their cause to prospective donors. Because the values to which we aspire — democracy, meritocracy, equality, and justice — depend on argument. Words matter. How, where, and why we wield them may change, but unless we wish to abandon those binding values, rhetoric will always be the engine of society.
