ABOUT MAX LAYKISH
Hi there! I’m a recent chemical engineering graduate from McGill University with a strong foundation in sustainability, process design, materials science, catalysis, and emerging biomedical technologies. Over the course of my five-year program, I explored diverse areas such as reactor and simulation design, heat and mass transfer, stem cell development, and the development of sustainable systems. During my time at McGill, I worked in the field of sustainable polymers, where I helped research, develop, and test an innovative bio-based material aimed at reducing environmental impact. This experience sparked my passion for applied research and hands-on problem solving. Following that, I joined a Montreal-based biotech startup focused on developing a handheld diagnostic device that leverages VOC-sensing technology to detect diseases. I began as a materials engineering intern and later continued in a graduate characterization engineering role, where I led several cross-functional projects involving electro-mechanical and pneumatic system design, validation, and troubleshooting. In this role, I also developed and executed testing procedures, performed advanced data analysis, and implemented self-taught machine learning models to improve device performance. My work contributed to measurable improvements in sensor sensitivity and product development cycles. I’m passionate about using science and engineering to build practical, sustainable solutions—and I’m always excited to take on complex, interdisciplinary challenges.
