As a Fraud Prevention Analyst, I actively enforce site policies on counterfeit goods, copyright infringement, and product safety (and more), while also detecting and removing threats like fraud, phishing, and scams using tools such as Power BI, SQL, Cloudcheck IDV, and Trade Me\'s PING platform. My responsibilities extend to compliance of site policy and legal considerations (e.g. Privacy Act 2020, Fair Trading Act 1986), assisting with the onboarding and training of new team members, running operational shifts, and monitoring trends through cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management to ensure a secure and trusted marketplace.

ABOUT MAX IRVING
Hi there! I’m a fifth-year Law and Arts student who’s always got a few things on the go — currently working at Trade Me and serving on several student boards such as the WCJP and CYNZ. Working at Trade Me, I\'ve developed critical insights into the operational risks inherent in online marketplaces, particularly around transactional vulnerabilities, platform trust and safety, and emerging financial crime threats. This experience strengthened my understanding of regulatory compliance requirements, fraud prevention strategies, and the complexities of safeguarding digital platforms in a rapidly evolving e-commerce landscape.As a Tutor, I have had the privilege of guiding and mentoring students, fostering their understanding of different theories and research methods. This position has not only reinforced my knowledge but also developed my ability to present complex information in an accessible and engaging manner. Beyond my professional life, I love getting involved in as many thing as possible. I am a keen volunteer, with notable experiences being a FIFA Airport / Transport volunteer for the 2023 Women\'s World Cup, a Language Partner for government officials from SouthEast Asia, and my exposure to Latin American and Japanese culture through the CAPE funded programmes. I also serve on the Executive for the Victoria University of Wellington Law Students\' Society (VUWLSS) for 2025 and the board of the University\'s Politics Society, a student-run initiative that connects students to the political world.
