My world view is one of \"cautious altruism\" guided by the motto,\"If not me, who?If not now, when?Then let it be me, now so that others may live.\"I spent over 30 years as a Tier 1 Disaster and Human-Made Event responder under one multi-letter government agency or another, including being a founding DHS Officer. Exceeding time and/or shielding on 9 occasions over 30 yrs left me with a very rare form of systemic mastocytosis and immunocompromise. Cumulative injuries and exposures disabled me in 2012. In the civilian world, I had a 20 yr career fixing broken rural ERs. Now, I am the Co-Founder and Chairperson for the High Alert Institute, a 501c3 educational public charity in the All Hazards, One Health, One Nature (AHOHN) sector. We take an All Hazards approach to health equity, energy resilience, environmental justice and global health. The Institute has four branches- AHOHN Education & Publishing- Animal Wellness & Mutual Aid- Environmental Stewardship & Drivers of Health- AHOHN Innovation and TechnologyIt has been the greatest privilege and highest honor to contribute in some small way to the health, safety,and security of this Great Nation, the State of Florida, my community and every patient who has entrusted their care to me.    Vision Statement:The High Alert Institute, Inc. is dedicated to empowering individuals,families, communities, businesses and organizations to be disaster ready.Mission Statement:The High Alert Institute\'s mission focuses on Disaster Education, Planning, Preparedness, Response and Recovery for those not served by municipal, local, county, state, regional or federal programs/agencies.For years we fulfilled this vision and mission with in person training programs and disaster healthcare response services. The Institute’s Post-Pandemic operations include :1. Disaster education concentrate on preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals and frontline workers by offering online disaster healthcare training for middle school and high school students interested in entering a healthcare profession.2. Disaster response operations will provide the ONLY freshwater non-native aquatic pet shelter / rescue in Florida.
