About Maurice Edwards
For nearly two decades, I have devoted my life to protecting the most vulnerable. My career with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office began in 2006, long before I knew the path it would take, but even then I understood my purpose was bigger than a badge. I wanted to stand in the gap for those who could not stand for themselves. In 2010, I joined the Youth Intervention Services Unit, working with children whose lives had been shaped by trauma and exploitation. Listening to their stories and their silence I found my calling. Their courage lit a fire in me that has never gone out.In 2015, I led the first human trafficking case ever investigated, tried, and successfully prosecuted in Seminole County. It was groundbreaking not because it made history, but because it gave a voice to someone who had been silenced for far too long. That case reshaped how our community understood exploitation and how our teams pursued justice. From that point on, I committed myself fully to the fight against human trafficking. As Chairman of the Seminole County Human Trafficking Task Force, I united law enforcement, prosecutors, service providers, and community advocates. We didn’t just build a task force we built a family of protectors determined to bring hope where there had been none.Throughout my years as an investigator, every human trafficking case I led resulted in a 100% conviction rate. None of them were easy. But survivors deserved nothing less than excellence, persistence, and unwavering belief in their truth. My work has been recognized with awards I never sought but deeply respect, including the Polaris Star Award, Florida Intelligence Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, the Frederick Douglass Human Trafficking Award, the IAHTI Career Achievement Award, and induction into the National Law Enforcement Hall of Fame. Each honor represents the survivors who trusted me with their stories. As a national trainer and subject matter expert with IAHTI, I have shared not only investigative strategies, but perspective: trauma‑informed work begins not with the crime, but with the human being behind it.Today, I continue to lead and empower those on the front lines. My mission remains the same as it was the day I first put on the uniform: to lift others out of darkness, to fight for justice with compassion, and to ensure that no child, no survivor, and no community ever faces this battle alone.
