   Direct public relations operations, including all outbound and inbound media relations activities for The Chronicle, placing editorial coverage and company news in trade and mainstream media. Implement a multifaceted external and internal strategic communications plan that increases brand awareness and reputation for The Chronicle, positioning it as the preeminent national source of news and information and “epicenter of discourse” through the lens of higher education. Collaborate with editorial leadership to promote Chronicle higher ed reporters and newsroom expertise, including timely national, regional and local pitching of newsworthy topics and SMEs, special newsroom reports, surveys, data sets, editorial initiatives and events. Coverage topics include DEI issues, legislation, AI/ChatGPT, faculty/instruction, admissions, student mental health, college finances, campus leadership, compensation, etc. Evaluate impact of PR activities on company’s brands, audiences and revenues. Track coverage and distribute regular media outreach metrics reports to executive team and Chronicle staff. Promote Chronicle’s support of excellence in journalism, including the Diversity in Media Scholarship, Society of Professional Journalists’ Corbin Gwaltney Award and student journalism workshops. Collaborate with company leadership and key internal stakeholders to establish consistent internal and external messaging and communications. Participate on corporate external rebranding project team.
