ABOUT MAUREEN KELLEHER
My mission in life: teach, write and raise hell. The hell-raising comes with telling the truth about education in the United States. As a reporter on Chicago schools, my work won a Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism and two national public service awards from the Society for Professional Journalists, plus three awards from the Chicago Headline Club. While editorial director for brightbeam, I served as an efficient story mechanic and a thoughtful line editor who knows AP style cold. It\'s a joy to help other writers hone their voices, from veteran journalists and policy experts to teachers, parents and students. I stay grounded by writing breaking news stories and explainers that make complex education policy accessible to parents and the public.
