ABOUT MAURA BELLIVEAU

Maura Belliveau, Ph.D, is the Assistant Dean for Diversity and Strategic Initiatives in the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences (CMNS) at the University of Maryland, College Park. In this newly created role, Belliveau will lead the research, design, implementation, management and assessment of a new, collaboratively developed strategic plan for the college, which will align with the university’s recently released strategic plan. She will also serve as the college’s diversity officer and develop and implement policies and programs that educate and engage the entire CMNS community and advance the college’s commitment to DEI. She previously served as the inaugural director of the Center for Diversity Innovation and Distinguished Visiting Scholars Program at the University at Buffalo. The Center generates, translates, and diffuses empirical research on diversity, inclusion, and inequality, and utilizes that research to design and communicate best practices through educational materials, trainings, and consultations at UB and in the Buffalo community. She has been a faculty member at leading universities including Emory University, Texas A&M University, and Duke University, where she was named one of the outstanding business school faculty members in the U.S. by Business Week, as well as at a teaching institution serving a majority minority student population. Her research, teaching, and public speaking focus on structures and processes that promote diversity and inclusion in organizations and which reduce bias. Her scholarly work has been published in top organizational studies journals and featured in The New York Times, Business Week, Fortune, The Economist, Fast Company, Boston Globe, Washington Post, and on NPR. Prior to earning her doctorate, she was a strategy consultant and senior manager for Cambridge Technology Group, a successful start-up that went public (as Cambridge Technology Partners) and continues to spawn many other entrepreneurial ventures in technology and consulting.
