ABOUT MATT TOTTEN

Since starting my career nearly 20 years ago, I have gained a wealth of experience providing complex Accounting and Audit Services, and Tax and Business Advisory to owner-managed companies. One thing I pride myself on is bringing a different level of thinking and insight to my clients. I feel I am successful at doing this because of the range of professional and volunteer experiences I have had. Some of my clients have especially benefitted from participating in creative business strategy sessions in which I myself facilitate. This process allows me to further help them uncover their full growth potential all while allowing me to provide them with practical business advice. Such clients are both owners and/or management teams of various organizations ranging from a variety of industries. In addition to my time working with Grant Thornton, I have also held a Chief Financial Officer position for a large manufacturing company. This position allowed me to gain a broader business skill set from an industry perspective. This experience has proven to be invaluable when it comes to my current practice as I often leverage the knowledge gained in that role in helping my clients of today thrive in meeting their overall strategic objectives.Outside of work, I have been an avid volunteer within the community. I have held executive board positions for Habitat for Humanity (Nova Scotia), Alzheimer’s Society (Nova Scotia), Greater Summerside Area Chamber of Commerce and Community Connections also in Summerside. In addition to these boards I also held the position of co-lead for the Construction and Real-Estate Sector Group in Halifax. Personally, I enjoy spending time with my wife and daughter, and we like to take full advantage of the summers offered here in Prince Edward Island. Some of our pastimes include boating, golf, other outdoor activities and travel.
