ABOUT MATT KASTELLEC
I have recently stepped into a new role at the NewSchools Venture Fund, where I’ll be managing systems and knowledge management approaches. Previous roles over ten years at the Achievement Network and Management Leadership for Tomorrow have focused on data infrastructure & analytics strategy, operations strategy, performance management, organizational strategy & board engagement, project district relationships and leading the ongoing development and support for a cohort of associates located around the country. Additionally, I have taken a focus in the areas of diversity, equity and professional development for my peers, leveraging my unique background from a range of organizations. This has allowed me to engage in developing/co-developing and delivering professional development content for my peers and my team/organization more broadly. I continue to explore a variety of work-streams to expand my skills, knowledge, and perspective and completed my MPA in 2019 at the NYU Wagner School of Public Service with a focus in management, performance management, organizational strategy, and risk management. I also was a part of Cohort 11 of the Strategic Data Project Fellowship offered by Harvard\'s Center for Education Policy Research. Outside of work I co-lead the Salt Lake Area Queer Climbers, a local climbing social group. SLAQC creates a supportive space for all queer people to enjoy climbing. We host regular meetups, raise visibility by collaborating with brands who share our mission, advocate for increased access to climbing with gym partners, and promote queer stories and organizations. Through these efforts, we empower queer individuals, create a more inclusive climbing community, reduce barriers to access, and cultivate collective knowledge.I additionally chair the board for Project Rainbow Utah, an organization committed to fostering inclusion and belonging for LGBTQ+ folks across Utah through visible signs of support and funding of projects that promote visibility and acceptance.
