ABOUT MATTHEW J WILLIAMS

Hands-on software engineer and technical leader, with substantial experience in building solutions that solve challenging real-world problems at global scale. As part of my mission to solve big problems, I also have experience building and managing the high-performing teams capable of tackling those challenges.I am particularly passionate about complex problems at the intersection of product, scale, and data, and I have built experiences that help and delight millions of end users across the world. I have developed data-intensive systems that incorporate information retrieval (search), recommendation, natural language processing (NLP), and machine learning (ML / AI) to deliver intelligent personalised experiences to 60+ million monthly users across 30+ languages and 70+ countries.Whatever I\'m building, I believe it is essential to take a user-centric holistic approach to the problem, whether the users may be end customers (e.g, with information-seeking intents) or other developers (e.g, developer experience and platform as a product).I am a versatile engineering professional and have worked in a variety of teams (including both product and platform) and in a variety of roles, such as as manager, lead engineer, and principal engineer.
