Cluster Lead Logistics (Pharma & Consumer) VP @Bayer

View department →

Leverkusen, DE

I lead Bayer’s logistics function for our divisions Pharma and Consumer Health. Doing so gives me the privilege to work closely with over 680 highly qualified logistics professionals in my team. While our mission is to “Deliver Healthcare”, our group is about more than running delivery operations. Every time something moves within Bayer, my team is involved. We operate all moves between our sites and our local affiliates, drive site logistics within all our Pharma production plants and provide crucial internal logistics consulting and advisory supporting our business in enhancing efficiency and navigating complex strategic change.Bayer Pharma’s supply chain and logistics function is at a genuine inflexion point. With strong executive sponsorship, we have the mandate to rethink product supply end-to-end, not just optimise around the edges. Our ambition is to move from traditional pharma towards a faster, more patient-centric model. We’re building an agile, modular supply chain that combines pharma-grade quality with speed and adaptability. Data, automation, and empowered teams sit at the heart of how we make decisions and act.Leadership here comes with real breadth and autonomy. Structures are relatively flat, titles matter less than impact, and teams are expected to think and act end to end across the value chain. We actively value leaders who bring fresh perspectives, whether from within Bayer or from industries beyond pharma. It’s an exciting time for Supply Chain at Bayer. If you’re ambitious, curious, and motivated by meaningful change, I’m always open to a conversation.

ABOUT MATTHIAS MENTSCHEL

Hi, I’m Matthias.More than 15 years ago, while working in consulting at Accenture, we did a project at Bayer’s Crop Science division. I loved the culture and the collaborative spirit, and I remember thinking “One day, I’d love to lead Logistics here.”Today, I’m lucky enough to say that’s what I do.Outside of work, you’ll usually find me coaching my children’s football team, playing ice hockey or reading all kinds of books – from management literature to science fiction and fantasy novels. At work, I lead Bayer’s Transport and Logistics functions. In all of it, I try to show up the same way. Committed, present, and focused on the people around me.Logistics has never been just about moving boxes for me.What my team does every day helps deliver vital healthcare to patients and customers across the world. That responsibility is something we take seriously, and it’s what drives us to keep raising the bar on how we execute. One of the things I value most about Logistics is the holistic view it gives you on supply chains and the opportunity to make a difference. Over time, that’s shaped my leadership style around three simple principles- Vision drives decision - Making sure the direction is clear, practical, and understood by everyone- Radical transparency - Being open and honest, so we can focus on learning and moving forward together- An open-door policy - Always approachable, supportive when needed, and giving people the space to do their best work. It’s an exciting time for the business, and I’m always happy to connect with people who are curious about building resilient, purpose-led supply chains.
